Creedmoor Hospital was the most picturesque and traditionally gothic of the psych institutions in which I ever slept. Some of the more modern ones were worse in terms of their determination to establish complete control over the inmates, but for sheer creepiness, Creedmoor stands by itself. These pictures show a building in which I lived without the consent of the institutional caretakers; it was abandoned and fenced off at the time, and, being abandoned, was much safer and quieter than the wards still run by the hospital administration. I slept in this building, ate in the building I was supposed to be sleeping in, and commuted to college every day for a year.
