Mary Daly, Beyond God the Father (Beacon Press) 1973,
pgs 94-95:
"The scholarly proponents of the matriarchal theory maintain that
this kind of culture was not bent on the conquest of nature or of other
human beings. In brief: it was not patriarchy spelled with an 'm'. This
is an important point, since many who are antagonistic to women's liberation
ignorantly and unimaginatively insist that the result will be the same
kind of society with women 'on top'. 'On top' thinking, imagining, and
acting is essentially patriarchal.
