To extend the sense of doing all the work from a very limited number of screens, many data entry functions that involved the presence of more fields and/or workflow-restrictive scripting that would require certain things to be done in a certain order or in a certain way were done via "pop-ups" -- dialogs that would float above the regular main menu screen. Other fields and buttons would remain visible in the background but would not be accessible until the task pertinent to the pop-up dialog was completed, at which point the pop-up dialog would disappear.
